Landmark risk between Clinic and Security — scout, softlock, bank, abort

Laboratory and Cafeteria Route Walkthrough

Route scope

This walkthrough covers Laboratory + Cafeteria as a landmark risk route on Atlas Middle deck in the Alien Invasyndrome Steam Demo. It sits between Clinic Doctor Route comfort and Security Routes commitment. This is not a promise of full-release map completeness — only Demo-verified landmarks and habits.

All characters are 18+. Adult scenes may appear in adjacent rooms; this page mentions them only as progression timing, never as graphic detail.

Developer Mozu Field / 百舌鳥, publisher Shady Corner Games, Steam app 4603980. Full release TBA. Latest public Demo: 1.0 hotfix (May 2026) — no newer numbered Demo confirmed. Hub: Walkthrough Hub. Map siblings: Key Rooms, Middle Deck Loop.

When to open this route

Open Lab & Cafeteria when:

  1. Kitchen Route softlocks feel automatic.
  2. Clinic first-meeting pacing is done or intentionally skipped today — Clinic Doctor Route.
  3. Nest progress is banking — How to Nest, Nest Checklist.
  4. You accept optional risk — Security remains the Demo gate, not Laboratory tourism.
  5. Detection recovery is practiced — Stealth and Detection.

Do not open this route on your first Atlas hour. Learn How to Play and Kitchen first.

Pre-route checklist

  • One nest bank completed this session
  • Three-cover rule named: scout / commit / exit — Vents and Cover
  • Detection Timer ready — Detection Timer
  • Softlock Fixes bookmarked — Softlock Fixes
  • Crew idle cycles skimmed — Crew
  • Security Routes pre-read so you know when to stop sightseeing

Phase 1 — Cafeteria as crossing, not camp

Cafeteria is a traffic hub with wide sight lines. Treat it as a wall-line transit, not a nest home.

  1. Enter along the shadow edge you scouted from Kitchen-adjacent corridors.
  2. Cross during far-table idle moments; never diagonal through open seating mid-turn.
  3. Pre-select abort: return the way you entered if a cone snaps toward you.
  4. Zero commits on the first crossing — this phase is landmark literacy only.

Cafeteria fails when players camp tables like Kitchen desks. Kitchen has tighter loops; Cafeteria punishes center-floor greed. Room dossier: Key Rooms Cafeteria section.

If spotted in Cafeteria, softlock only at furniture with a verified exit. Wide floors make panic sprints lethal.

Phase 2 — Laboratory scout (two passes, zero greed)

Laboratory is Clinic’s stricter sibling: longer reads, more visual clutter, same desk softlock risk.

Before any Laboratory interact:

  1. Scout the doorway twice — Laboratory re-entries surprise players who stare at the wrong prop.
  2. Confirm desk / furniture softlock with exit geometry tested, not assumed.
  3. Confirm an exit vector different from entry.
  4. Still do not commit unless today’s goal is a single probe.

Laboratory is where early build starts to matter. If captures feel impossible without suicidal peeks, pause at Early Build and Skill Tree before forcing this wing.

Phase 3 — Single-objective commit

When the gap is real and nest is healthy:

  1. Move during the blind arc.
  2. Touch one objective — interact, capture window, or route tag.
  3. Softlock immediately if aggro spikes.
  4. Wait the full ~1 minute if fully spotted.
  5. Exit to cover before the next sweep.

Do not chain Laboratory into Cafeteria recross without banking. Two-room greed is how Security later feels impossible.

Capture discipline: How to Capture applies the same quiet standard here.

Phase 4 — Nest banking stop rule

After any clean Lab or Cafeteria slice:

  1. Exit to a safer Middle junction — Decks.
  2. Bank nest progress immediately.
  3. Optional skill spend via Skill Planner.
  4. Decide: stop for today, Middle Deck Loop practice, or Security prep.

Hard stop rule: if detection spiraled once, bank and abort. Do not “finish Lab because you are already here.”

Phase 5 — Exit toward Security or abort

You may leave this route for Security only when:

  • Nest economy is stable after Lab/Cafeteria gains.
  • Softlock recovery is boring, not heroic.
  • You picked Security Way A or Way B in advance — Security Routes, Security Room.
  • You are not mid-detection penalty.

Boss comes after Security, not after Laboratory pride — Boss Route, How to Beat the Boss.

Desk softlocks on this route

Laboratory and Cafeteria share Atlas desk logic with Clinic and Kitchen:

  • Intended hide: wait, then exit after timer mood settles.
  • Stuck state: UI dead, cannot leave — Softlock Fixes.

Laboratory desks are especially rude: exits look obvious yet collision-block in Demo builds. Pre-check stand-up timing so you do not pop into a facing cone.

Inputs: Stealth Actions, Keyboard. Locale: Locale Emulator.

Session script (20–30 minutes)

  1. Kitchen warm-up softlock — Kitchen Route.
  2. Nest bank once.
  3. Cafeteria wall-line cross (no commit).
  4. Laboratory two-pass scout + optional one objective.
  5. Bank again.
  6. Stop or pivot to Security — not both Lab greed and Security same hour if messy.

Demo scope disclaimer

Steam marketing may name rooms not mandatory for Demo end. This route documents landmark risk seen in community Demo 1.0 play, not a full-release atlas promise. Track official changes: Changelog, Demo Access, Updates Hub.

How this fits the Demo spine

Recommended order:

  1. Demo Walkthrough
  2. Kitchen Route
  3. Clinic Doctor Route
  4. Lab & Cafeteria (this page) — optional risk
  5. Security Routes
  6. Boss Route

Lab & Cafeteria is optional Middle-deck risk. Scout twice, bank every win, and leave Security-grade focus for the real Demo gate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common Alien Invasyndrome questions.

Is Laboratory required to finish the Demo?

Not as a universal gate. Security and boss progression own Demo end. Lab is optional landmark risk — see Demo Walkthrough.

Should I nest in Cafeteria?

Poor camp, OK transit. Bank at your Middle nest commute instead. Nest systems: How to Nest, Middle Deck Loop.

Why do Laboratory desks softlock more than Kitchen?

Tighter furniture geometry and longer sight lines. Always pre-check exit tiles. Recovery: Softlock Fixes.

When should I stop Lab sightseeing and go to Security?

When nest is banked, softlocks are automatic, and you picked Way A or B. Security pages: Security Routes.

Does this page promise the full-release map?

No. It covers Demo-verified Middle landmarks only. Full release is TBA — Version History, Steam Status.
