How to Nest Guide

Content note

Alien Invasyndrome (Steam app 4603980) is an adult stealth-action Demo. Nesting is a core progression verb. This page explains timing and risk only. Brief 18+ notice: mature themes exist in the game; the wiki stays mechanical and non-graphic.

Nesting in one sentence

Nesting is the Demo’s main way to convert a quiet window into progression while you operate as an alien larva aboard Atlas. A nest attempt that starts in a bad sightline is worse than waiting one full patrol cycle.

Before your first serious nest run, skim How to Play and Stealth and Detection. Keep the Nest Checklist open if you want a clickable pre-flight list.

Preconditions for a clean nest

Run this check every time the nest prompt appears:

  1. Line of sight: No crew facing your tile or the approach lane you will occupy for the full interaction.
  2. Patrol budget: Enough quiet time to finish. If you are unsure, wait. Aborting mid-nest under alert is expensive.
  3. Escape cover: A desk softlock or corner within one short dash. If the room has no exit cover, delay nesting.
  4. Detection state: Do not start nesting during the ~1 minute detection penalty. Hide first; nest second.
  5. Objective fit: Nest where the Demo actually rewards the risk. Random nests in the loudest Cafeteria seats are ego plays.

If you fail the checklist, walk away. The nest will still be there after the next loop.

Nesting vs stealth vs skills

Nesting sits on top of stealth, not beside it. Detection rules from Stealth and Detection still apply. Skill investment changes how forgiving the window feels.

  • INT-leaning nests: Better when you want shorter risk, smarter route picks, and fewer forced retries. Strong default for Kitchen and Laboratory.
  • STR-leaning nests: Relevant when a route expects pressure or a later confrontation. Still does not cancel hide requirements.
  • Skill tree order: Unlock nodes that protect movement and awareness before stacking late evolution fantasy. Use Skill Tree and Early Build for a Demo-safe order.

Room nesting notes

Atlas Demo rooms that matter for nesting practice:

Kitchen

Kitchen is a featured early nest classroom. Short patrol loops teach abort discipline. Prefer counter-adjacent cover and avoid open island crossings while the interaction runs. For a routed clear, see Kitchen Route.

Clinic

Clinic furniture helps. Desk softlocks near nest spots are common. The failure mode is exiting cover into a returning medical patrol. Peek, then finish.

Laboratory

Long sightlines punish greed. Start nests only when the far door is clear. Lateral mid-bench nests are how INT players still get spotted.

Cafeteria

Wide space, uneven safety. Nest on quieter edges after seating traffic settles. Center tables look convenient and die loud.

Security Room

Security nesting is route-dependent. Do not improvise a nest in Security until you have chosen Route A or Route B and understand camera timing. Read Security Room first; nesting here without a plan often wastes an otherwise good stealth segment.

Crew behavior context lives under Crew. Use it to remember who tends to re-check which spaces, not as lore homework mid-run.

Step-by-step nest loop

Use this loop for Demo consistency:

  1. Enter the room from a known safe door (deck transitions beat random vents when you are learning).
  2. Map one patrol cycle without interacting.
  3. Identify nest tile + cover tile as a pair.
  4. Move during the blind arc; start nest immediately on arrival.
  5. If a head turns mid-nest, cancel early if the game allows, then softlock. Do not “almost finish” into a face check.
  6. On success, leave along a different vector than your entry when possible so returning crew do not trace your path.
  7. Bank the progression, then decide whether the room still has a second nest worth the new alert heat.

Abort discipline

Aborting is a skill. Players who never cancel will eventually soft-fail Security and Laboratory. Practice intentional aborts in Kitchen: start nest, cancel on a turn, hide, complete on the next cycle. That pattern transfers to harder rooms and to boss-adjacent pressure later.

If cancel or hide leaves you stuck under a desk, go to Softlock Fixes instead of restarting blindly.

INT/STR allocation for nesting-focused Demo runs

A practical early split:

  • First investments: survivability of the stealth loop (awareness, safer movement, anything that shortens exposed time).
  • Second: nesting efficiency nodes if the tree offers them in your build path.
  • Third: STR packages only when your route includes forced pressure (often Security-adjacent or boss prep).

Over-investing STR before you can nest quietly creates a Demo where you win one scuffle and then cannot finish objectives. Details and example orders are on Early Build.

Detection penalty and nesting

After a spot, assume about one minute where nesting is the wrong verb. Hide, softlock, reset camera, re-read the patrol, then nest. The Detection Timer helps you stop guessing that window. Nesting during penalty is the most common self-inflicted Demo reset.

Nest checklist (compact)

Copy this mental list or use the interactive Nest Checklist:

  • Quiet state confirmed
  • Cover assigned
  • Patrol far edge reached
  • Nest started
  • Abort rule ready
  • Exit path chosen
  • No second nest until heat drops

Demo scope and wishlist

Nesting guidance here matches the Steam Demo by Mozu Field / 百舌鳥, published by Shady Corner Games. Full release is TBA. Wishlist on Steam if you want launch follow-up, and keep drilling Kitchen → Clinic → Laboratory nest loops until Security feels boring.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common Alien Invasyndrome questions.

When should I start a nest?

Only when line of sight is clear, cover is one short dash away, and you are not inside the detection penalty window. If any check fails, wait one patrol cycle.

Which room is best for learning nesting?

Kitchen. Short loops teach abort discipline before you attempt Laboratory sightlines or Security route nests.

Does INT or STR matter more for nesting?

INT-leaning early investments usually protect nest success better. Add STR when your route expects forced pressure, not as a substitute for stealth.

Can I nest during the detection penalty?

You should not. Hide for about a minute, reset patrol reads, then nest. Nesting under alert is a common Demo failure.

What if I get stuck under a desk while nesting?

Treat it as a softlock recovery problem. Follow Softlock Fixes for input and camera recovery before restarting the segment.
